Henrietta the Hippo
Hutto, Texas
submitted by “Anaconda”

Anaconda says:
I found this in Hutto, “The Hippo Capital of Texas” (for real). A hippo escaped from a circus train in 1915 and caused quite a stir when it got stuck in mud. The hippo got freed (with a lot of effort) and was returned to the circus.
The hippo is now the town mascot, and a hundred smaller concrete hippos are scattered all over town, each decorated differently. (like the pink hippo pictured at left)
