A Donut Fit For A Giant
Giant Donut
Maple Donuts Shop
Newberry Commons
Lewisberry, Pennsylvania
On the same day that I “discovered” the Giant Record Stash in Manchester, I also stopped by the Maple Donuts in Etters, Pennsylvania.
Newberry Commons (formerly the Valley Green Mall) is a strip mall just off Interstate 83. It’s roughly halfway between York and Harrisburg – and just a few exits south of the RoadsideWonders World Headquarters 🙂 This isn’t the first time that I’ve snapped some photos of the gigantic donut that sits atop the building. Sadly, my older photos were lost in a hard drive crash awhile ago. I say “sadly” because there used to be a smaller version of the same donut in front of the store. It housed the Maple Donuts mailbox (within the donut hole) and it has since been removed.
While they do serve a maple-flavored glazed donut, the Maple Donuts name is derived from the street where the business began in 1946. I prefer their donuts over Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts both!
Extras:
– Though I love the great big donut, their more charming shop is located on Market Street in York. Visit Mod Betty’s Retro Roadmap for an “inside peek”
Great minds think alike! Can’t wait to try this location!
I love giant signs in the shape of what’s being sold. Always makes me want to pull over!
This is about 2 minutes from my front door. Pass it every day. It’s a constant battle to not go inside and gobble down a dozen kustard donuts…
Yep, I pass it fairly frequently too. Love their donuts … and nothing beats the aroma when you walk through the door.
