I stopped by the Marine Corps War Memorial (better known as the Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn,Virginia today. It was unusually quiet… usually there are a number of visitors and tour buses there, but I had the memorial pretty much all to myself.

Here’s a little tidbit… 3 of the men depicted in the statue are buried in Arlington Cemetery right next door. In fact, the grave of Rene Gagnon is perhaps only a hundred yards or so from the Iwo Jima Memorial… just inside the pedestrian entrance to the cemetery adjacent to the memorial.

Thanks again to Mike for a powerfully moving “wonder”! You’ll be seeing the “MikeP” tag quite frequently in the next several weeks … he’s been sending some really great stuff lately!
