If you want a unique getaway with friends, a fun experience for your family … or even a romantic weekend, this “wonder” ticks all of the boxes and then some. Located amidst working farms, the Strasburg Railroad, and other Lancaster County attractions are 38 cabooses, a mail car, and a baggage car – all remodeled as motel rooms of various sizes and layouts. The Red Caboose also offers more traditional suites in their Shady Rest Farmhouse.
The property has a dining car restaurant and there are free family-friendly movies in the barn at night during select seasons (We didn’t watch an entire movie; but we did stop in for a few minutes). The screen and the sound system are just as good as a real movie theater! Guests can climb up to a viewing tower in the barn’s silo – which offers a great view from 50 feet in the air. A stable in the courtyard offers Amish buggy rides and they even have a petting zoo!
It was a truly unique experience to stay in a caboose. I would definitely do it again! It gets a Five Star Rating from RoadsideWonders 🙂
What a great time! Throw in lunch at Isaac’s and you’ve got a perfect Lancaster getaway.
I highly recommend it! Now if we could only get them to host a railroad luau. 🙂
Looks like such a wonderful time. I don’t know how you can go wrong with trains, farm animals and those vintagey-looking room keys!
I LURVE those keys 🙂
Nobody in the future will have fond memories of those hotel electronic door swipe cards. … But there are 600+ listings on eBay for “vintage hotel room key”
Yep and dozens of “re-pros” on Etsy too.
I love your blog! I read about this Caboose motel a few years ago and it’s definitely on my list of places to visit. Thanks for the review.
Thank you. That’s so nice to hear 🙂
Do visit it. It’s really fantastic!
