Bill:
I found this on my travels, thought you would like it. This is a Hindu Temple in Lilburn, Georgia (on the outskirts of Atlanta). The temple, officially called the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, is the largest of its kind in the United States. Mandir is a traditional Hindu place of worship that is built based on architectural guidelines from ancient Hindu scriptures. The traditional design features custom-carved stonework, a wraparound veranda and five prominent pinnacles reminiscent of the Himalayan hills. Giant stairs mimic the climb worshippers have to make to mountainside temples in India.

Wow, this is just gorgeous, Bill! I am definitely putting this on my “to do” list the next time that I’m down south. I would have loved to have been there when they were constructing it!

from the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir website:
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir was inaugurated in August of 2007 after only 17 months of construction time utilizing 1.3 million volunteer hours. The Mandir is comprised of 3 types of stone (Turkish Limestone, Italian marble, and Indian pink sandstone). More than 34,000 individual pieces were carved by hand in India, shipped to the USA and assembled in Lilburn like a giant 3-D puzzle.
