The Cardiff Giant was one of the most famous hoaxes in American history. I visited him at the Fenimore Museum (a cool little museum featuring Cooperstown area agricultural history and the life of legendary author James Fenimore Cooper and his family)

  1. WOW! I remember reading about The Cardiff Giant in my 6th grade reading book – it never occurred to me that he might still be around! Totally putting him on the Retro Roadmap places to check out map. Thanks for the info!

You know, I wanted to visit the Farmers Museum BEFORE I realized that the famous Cardiff Giant is there. That’s such a fascinating case about archaeology and gullibility. Now I **REALLY** want to go to the Farmers Museum. I also like that, before it went to its resting place in Cooperstown, the Giant was in some guy’s “basement rumpus room.” Because of course.
