When I visited the Pittston Tomato Fight this August, (click here to see the fight!) I neglected to find the city’s “Tilting Tomato” – a 350-lb cast bronze sculpture by Laura Lengyel. I made a point of correcting that error while on my way home from Scranton yesterday.

The tomato was unveiled in August of 2008 and installed at its permanent location in August of 2009.

Pittston proclaims itself “The Quality Tomato Capital of the World”; and if you have the chance to visit you’ll find plenty of evidence of the community’s civic pride!
